THE NUIG NODE OF NPIC IS SCHEDULED TO BE FULLY OPERATIONAL IN Q3 2022, AND WILL ALLOW HIGH FIELD MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING and MAGNETIC RESONANCE SPECTROSCOPy

A 3T MR scanner is due to be installed in March 2022 in NUIG

The 3T MR scanner has optimal volume sensitivity for different rodent animal sizes and is combined with a gradient strength of 450mT/m with various coil arrangements for each animal size with integrated wireless cardiac monitoring. The system can be used to generate highly resolved structural T1 and T2 weighted imaging with high SNR at sub μm² resolution and can deliver 3D volume data in less than 9 minutes. This is coupled with molecular/functional neuro imaging capabilities in T2 mapping, Echo Planar Imaging (EPI) for Perfusion, arterial spin labelled, Diffusion, elastography and fMRI and Cardiac imaging using dynamic tagged imaging of the heart with full heart coverage and high temporal resolution. The system is self-gating to reduce the influenced of cardiac motion in abdominal imaging and through the highly resolved T2 FSE and ultra-short echo time imaging.
