NUIG Facility Activities

A collaborative research effort is our preferred model of engagement. We will provide training for longitudinal studies scanning and post processing software. Unassisted rates may only be applied post training and MRI safety completion and certification by onsite magnetic resonance expert/s.

Grant Applications: If you are considering using MRI/MRS in your research we can provide advice on applications, study design, data analysis and budget. We prefer to join your grant application as a co-applicant where appropriate rather than being a service provider. This gives everyone a shared scientific goal to work together to deliver state-of-the-art MRI data for your studies.

Proof of concept or pilot studies:  If you wish to obtain proof-of-concept data or a small pilot study to support or strengthen a grant application we will provide technical support and assistance. Cost model will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis on a collaborative basis.

Ethical Approvals: Standard imaging protocols can be provided for ethics applications.

Costs

Internal academic: Internal academic users with project accounts in NUIG or if external collaborators have a collaboration with a NUIG researcher and a mechanism for transferring funds to a NUIG account, costs can be charged at internal rates. VAT is not applied for internal users.

External not-for-profit users: These costs apply to academic or not-for-profit users with project accounts held outside NUIG.  VAT will be applied to these scan charges at 23%

Commercial Price: Commercial for-profit entities.

Scan costs are reviewed and approved annually. Scan costs are billed at the rate listed on the date of scanning.

Academic Internal Users Academic or not-for-profit External Users Industry or for-Profit External Users
Unassisted Imaging/hr €100 €150 €300
Assisted Imaging/hr (support staff included) €150 €200 €350
Specimen overnight run €200 €250 €300

Image processing and data analysis ~ €50 per animal per time point for a standard protocol. More advanced measures may require higher analysis costs due to the time involved.  PIs will be advised of this at grant application stage.  We will however as part of our collaborative model seek to train personnel in data acquisition and analysis.

Please note:

·      Invoices will be issued every quarter (TBC).

·      Prices above are exclusive of VAT

·      VAT is not charged for internal researchers

·      The income from instrument use is for maintenance, service contract and upgrades.

Booking System

Minimum booking time for MRI is 1hr.  Within reason changes can be amended to reflect actual usage after the fact.

How to acknowledge contribution(s) of the Preclinical Imaging facility in publications.

Funding Acknowledgement: Any publications and/or presentations, posters etc. which emanate from the NPIC should contain the following funding acknowledgement: "This publication has emanated from research supported in part by RCSI, UCD and NUIG pursuant to a grant from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) under grant number 18/RI/5759 and a grant from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under grant number 13/RC/2073."

Authorship: A collaborative research effort is our preferred model of engagement. Should staff make a substantial intellectual contribution to the research this should be acknowledged in the form of co-authorship as per standard academic practice.

Other Acknowledgments for contributions where intellectual input is not substantial (training, standard technical support etc.) should be covered in acknowledgments section of publication e.g. The authors acknowledge NUIG CURAM for providing technical support for MRI imaging.

Proper acknowledgements allow us to track output and demonstrate value to funding agencies and the research community with the aim to leverage further funding to reinvest in the platform.
